Suzanne Overstreet Baker

September 14, 1937 — August 15, 2023

Suzanne Overstreet Baker, 85, of Tavares, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023.

Born in Lakeland, Florida to U.S. Air Force Ltd. Colonel Hartridge Doss Overstreet and Louise Blackshear Overstreet, Suzanne grew up in Florida, Japan, Colorado and Mississippi. At an early age it became clear that she shared Louise’s creative talents and her father’s grin and athleticism. She met her love, William Albert Baker, in Leland, Mississippi and they married at just 19 years old. It was a love that would stand the test of time, and they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on July 22, 2023. Suzanne’s pride and immense joy was her adoring family!

Suzanne spent much of her married life in southern and central Florida and gathered many dear friends along the way. As a young newlywed living in Plantation, Florida, she became a very active member of the West Palm Beach Junior Woman’s Club. Later, as a valued member of the Plantation Junior Woman’s Club, Suzanne danced and sang in many Cabaret performances, and was proud to serve as the club’s General Chairman and Cabaret Chairman. Suzanne became an exemplary mother, and also cared for and loved her many horses, dogs and all God’s creatures. She also played tennis and golf at Lago Mar Country Club. In 1995 she moved to Eustis, Florida where she soon made cherished friends and continued to be active in her community as a devoted member of Azalea Garden Club District 7 and eventually a dedicated member of The Women’s Committee of Fine Arts of Mount Dora. Over the years she diligently supported their efforts in the roles of President, Vice President, Recording Secretary and Asst. Recording Secretary. More recently, she enjoyed the company and friendly competition of her close knit bridge group, that met regularly at Mission Inn Resort and Club.
To know Suzanne was to absolutely love her. She loved without measure, fiercely supported her friends and loved ones and If you needed her forgiveness, she gave it openly. Her favorite place to be was anywhere with her children, family, and many friends, sharing lots of debates, laughs and Sutter Home—most especially at Christmas time.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, William Albert Baker of Tavares, FL; 2 sons, Trace H. (Lisa) Baker of Tavares, FL, John D.L. (Nicolle) Baker of Mount Dora; 4 grandchildren, Trace H. Baker, Jr., Cole Baker, Andrew Baker, Abigail Jackson, as well as 1 great-grandchild, Bennett Jackson. A Celebration of Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Eustis, Florida on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at 3:00 pm.
