Listen to Obituary

Paul Frederick Olsen, 89, of Eustis, moved on to be with his Lord in heaven on Sunday, September 14, 2025. Born and raised in Pottawattamie County, Iowa to the late Leroy and Berna Olsen. Paul was predeceased by three of his sisters Leona Stevens, Joan Clausen, and Thea Irwin. While growing up on the farm in Iowa, Paul developed an early love for the outdoors and family. After graduating from the University of Iowa he dedicated his career as an electrical engineer for the US Navy. He married the late Betty Jean Allison, with whom he raised a family in Springfield, Virginia. Following retirement, they moved to Smith Mountain Lake Virginia. Together Paul and Betty are survived by their son, Robert (Colleen) Olsen of Culpeper, VA; three daughters, Susan (Al Miller) Olsen of Brownsville, PA, Diane Olsen of Lake City, FL, Virginia (Carl) Davidson of Lake City, FL; his sister, Karen Ghezzi of Seminole FL, and brother Harold Olsen of Denison IA; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Following Betty’s passing, Paul married the late Alice Marie Erickson and settled in Mount Dora, Florida and was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Eustis, FL. Following Alice Marie’s passing, Paul found love once more with Jeannine Gay of Eustis, FL, who survives him. Paul and Jeannine shared a joyful life together with church, beach trips, and family gatherings—their love for each other was evident to all who knew them. Paul’s life was grounded in three great loves. First, his faith in the Lord, which guided him through all his years, providing the foundation for his life. Second, his family. He was a loving and caring husband, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His third love was the outdoors. He delighted in fishing, camping, shooting, archery —passing along those passions (and more practical outdoor skills, like cutting and stacking wood) to future generations. He was wickedly bright with a great sense of humor. He was a bit of a hard ass, but at the end of the day, just an amazing man. We are all going to miss him terribly, but he’ll always be with all of us in the things he taught, the stories he told, and the love he left behind. Services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Eustis, FL on Sunday, October 26 at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Vinton, VA on Saturday, November 1 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 2727 South Grove Street, Eustis, FL 32726. Online Guestbook available at www.hardenpauli.com.
