Lura Inez Hall

October 29, 1933 — May 6, 2024

Tallahassee, Florida

Lura Inez (Messer) Hall, 90, of Tallahassee, passed away peacefully in her home on May 6, 2024. Born October 29, 1933, in Okahumpka, Florida to parents Zula (Walworth) and Geanous Messer. Lura grew up in Tavares, Florida. In school, she met (Thomas) Keith Hall and they later became high school sweethearts while attending Tavares High School. They were married at First Baptist Church Tavares on July 27, 1952. For a time, Lura and Keith lived in Cedarville, OH, working at the Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Orphan home as house parents while Keith worked and attended Cedarville College and Wilmington College. In 1959 they moved back to Tavares, purchasing their first home together on Park Ave. Lura was a wife, mother, and greatest supporter of Keith in his many roles at the Lake County Tax Collector's office for 33 years. Through the years, they were devoted members of First Baptist Church, Tavares and Bay Street Baptist, Eustis. They were married for 50 years, until Keith's passing (April 21, 1933 - June 25, 2002.) Through the years, Lura worked outside the home in several settings, Lake County Chamber of Commerce, Cedarville College, houseparent for about 20 boys at Ohio Soldiers Orphan Home, Lake County Health Department, and First Baptist Church Tavares. Lura always loved music and singing, having a lovely alto voice, and participated in church choirs. Lura loved to entertain Sunday School groups, friends, and family in their home. She enjoyed feeding her guests delicious, home cooked, Southern meals in their home decorated with memories of their travels to Williamsburg, VA, and other favorite spots. She enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom to their beloved, only child, Stephen. Later, she became grandmother and great-grandmother, two of her favorite roles. Lura is preceded in death by her parents, Zula and Geanous Messer; brother, Travis Otis Messer; sister, Imogene (Messer) Wigglesworth, and son, Stephen Keith Hall. She is survived by grandson, Creighton (Erika) Hall; granddaughter, Bethany (Troy) Scott (children of Stephen and Linda (Hall) Chapman,) and five great grandsons, Bryce, Wyatt, Connor, Mason, Hunter, daughter in law Belinda (Lee Florio) Hall.
