Edith Kagalis, 90, of Grand Island, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024. Edie was born in New York City, 1933, to Vicente Velez and Aurelia Rodriguez-Lopez de Victoria. Edie graduated from Hunter College in NYC with a child psych degree that she would use to teach.
She is survived by her husband, Theodore "Theo" Kagalis; her son, Luis Kagalis; her daughter, Karen Kagalis and nearly adopted daughter, Deborah Williamson; 2 sisters, Marixa (Victor) Salgado and Mildred (Anthony) Moreno; 6 grandchildren and their spouses; plus 5 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; Edie also leaves behind friends, cousins galore, and lest we forget, Edie’s cat, Baby, who also misses her terribly.
Edie was gracious, laughed wholeheartedly, and beamed a smile that shared her love with the world. She was intelligent, and great fun. Edie was proud of all her friends in her life. The First United Methodist Church of Eustis granted her a connection with God and fellowship throughout the chapel. The Newcomers & Friends Social Club was a monthly dose of friendship and food that delighted her at the Country Club of Mount Dora. Edie was honored to be a part of the talented women of the Lake County Ladies Chorus who gave her joy, showed her love, and shared her passion for music and singing.
Edie’s memorial service and celebration of life will be held on April 27, 2024, at 3:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church of Eustis, 600 S. Grove Street, Eustis, FL 32726. Following the service we will retreat to the Fellowship Hall for refreshments.
In lieu of flowers please contribute to a cause near and dear to Edie’s heart, the Forward Paths Foundation. Houses have been built on donated church land for kids over 18 who have aged out of Foster Care in Lake County, Florida. Please make checks payable to FUMCE, add ‘Forward Paths’ to your memo line, and send it to the church’s address mentioned above.
