Dennis (Denny) Aaron Libby passed away peacefully on May 26, 2025, at the age of 83. At the time of his passing, he was living at Lakeview Terrace Retirement Community in Florida with his beloved wife of 16 years, Wendy Pacek.
Born in Millinocket, Maine, Denny moved to the Washington, D.C. area after college. It was there he built a life with his family and spent his career as an engineer with the Department of the Navy until his retirement.
Denny had a lifelong passion for sports, both as a player and an avid fan. He was especially proud to support his daughters’ athletic activities by coaching, officiating, or cheering them on from the sidelines.
In retirement, Denny found joy in motorcycling, eventually trading in two wheels for his cherished three-wheeled Can-Am for added safety. One of his proudest accomplishments was hiking the Appalachian Trail with his wife Wendy in 2008 and 2009. Along the trail, he was known affectionately by his trail name, “Katahdin Kid”.
Denny was active in his church, generously volunteering on various committees and offering his time and support wherever it was needed. He was a faithful friend of Bill W. for over 38 years—an accomplishment he held dear. He supported others on their path to recovery with compassion and understanding.
Denny was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Betty Libby. He is survived by his loving wife, Wendy Pacek; his daughters, Cindy Brault (Jim), Ann Leveille, and Karen Gass (Dave); step-son, Greg Pacek; and his grandchildren Kayla and Ryan Brault, and Andrew and Josh Leveille. Denny is also survived by his sisters, Nancy Fisher and Laura Jones as well as many dear friends and extended family.
Denny was a kind and compassionate soul who had a remarkable ability to see the good in everyone. The “Katahdin Kid” has reached his final summit, and his journey lives on in all who loved him.
