Betty June Coon

June 8, 1939 — April 24, 2024

Astatula, Florida1

Betty June Coon, 84, of Astatula, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. She was born on June 8, 1939, in Combs, Kentucky, to James L. Turner and Mary (Deaton) Turner. Betty spent most of her life in Fort Wayne, Indiana, before retiring from Lutheran Health Network. In 2001, she moved to Florida to enjoy her retirement years. Betty is survived by her daughter, Debbie A. (John) Edgar, and four sons, Denver J. (Amy) McLemore, Donald R. (Vanessa) McLemore, David L. (Tammy) McLemore, and Danny McLemore, all of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Her extended family includes one step-daughter Janice Coon Moore of Willet, New York, two surviving sisters, Lucille Smalley of Burlington, Kentucky, and Wilma Spears of Middletown, Ohio. Betty is also fondly remembered by 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Betty opened her heart and home to many throughout her life, nurturing and caring for them as if they were her own family. Betty's beloved husband, Robert A. Coon, passed away on February 18, 2016, preceding her in death. She was also preceded by her sister, Grace Honaker, and step-grandson, Chris Levy. Betty treasured every moment with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her face would instantly light up with joy whenever they walked into the room. Betty had an extraordinary talent for making everyone feel like they belonged-she never saw a stranger, always seeing the best in people and greeting them with warmth and kindness. As a devoted Christian, Betty believed that true happiness came from resilient prayer and serving the Lord. She embodied these principles in her daily life and passed them down to her children and grandchildren, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. Her legacy of faith, love, and compassion will be remembered by all who knew her. A celebration of Betty's life will be held at a later date in Indiana to honor her memory.
