On August 16, 1935 a star was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to Melvin and Kathleen (Kitty) Quackenbush. Their only child, Sheila, affectionately known as Teal to those who loved her, reveled in the attention bestowed upon her as the sole child among her adult family. Due to WW II and her father serving as a flight instructor for the armed services, the family traveled extensively from base to base throughout the United States eventually returning to Atlanta for Sheila's teen years. It was here she was introduced (by her future sister in law) to John B Pitts. They were married after Sheila graduated from High School and for 60 years shared a life traveling the world, raising a beautiful family, and maintaining lifelong friendships. After 30 + years of living in Miami, FL, Sheila and John moved to Eustis, FL, where they retired and immersed themselves in their locality and beyond. Whether strolling downtown Mt. Dora, enjoying a sunset on Captiva Island or taking in the mountain views of Brevard, North Carolina, Sheila knew no strangers; those fortunate to cross her path in life were ensured a lasting kinship, whether they be a relative needing a "place to crash" for a while, a neighbor to check in with or a stray "kitty cat" looking for quiet time. A proud Christian, Southerner, and mother, Sheila embraced community and tradition. She enjoyed a tall glass of iced tea on a warm day, a long drive to nowhere in particular, the twinkling lights at Christmas, the beauty of nature, the local art scene, Barry Manilow and making those around her laugh. But most of all, she treasured the company and togetherness of her family. She is survived and deeply missed by her 2 daughters Michelle Deitch ( Alan) and Alison Korman ( Ron), 7 grandchildren Rachelle ( John) Whitney, Ashley ( Dan) From, Matthew Thompson, Brittany and Robert Deitch and Kelly and Michael Korman and 2 great grandchildren ( Hannah and Josh From). We know and take comfort in the fact that Sheila is watching us as our angel today. So when you see a pelican, cardinal or butterfly, Teal is there. Don't forget to say hello and take a moment to remember her with only love.
