Gary L. Parsons

Gary L. Parsons, 86, of Altoona, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2023. Born in Harlan, Kentucky, he moved to Umatilla in 1940’s from Harlan. He graduated from Umatilla High School Class of 1954-55 and after attending one year of college at University of Florida, he left for the military. Gary retired from the US Air Force as a Major after serving 23 years, including the Vietnam war. Gary was a member of the First Baptist Church, Umatilla. He was an avid fisherman and also loved hunting and camping. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley N Parsons, Altoona; son, Michael L. and his wife Vanessa Parsons, Parkland, FL; sister, Deirdre P. Moore, Clearwater Beach, FL; cousin, Jane Alice Kenney, Daytona Beach, FL; three grandchildren Andrew, Logan and Brody; and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Harden/Pauli Funeral Home, Eustis on Sunday, April 2, 2023, from 5:00 till 7:00 PM. Graveside services will be held at Umatilla Cemetery, Umatilla on Monday, April 3, 2023 at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Umatilla Building Fund.
